Beautiful Kooikerhondje mix looking for new home

It's with great regret that we're looking for a new home for our dog - Disa.

- Disa is about 3 old
- she's a rescue from Peru, and is part street-dog, part Kooikerhondje (we think!). She's neutered, microchipped etc, and has all immigration paperwork
- she is house trained, and has access to a garden, but is used to asking to go out/goes out at roughly set times
- she is well behaved, very intelligent (which, of course, leads to stubbornness at times!), food driven and very eager to please (so easy to train!)
- she is best as the only animal in the house, as her time in the shelter has left her with a mixed reaction to other dogs
- she hasn't spent much time with children, but was very quiet/gentle the few times she has met our young niece (who is still under 2 years old)
- she is perfect in the car, and loves walking in new green places - but she is often overwhelmed by very busy streets with lots of people so would prefer rural walks

She has never shown any signs of aggression, and will play very gently with people. I play in a more boisterous manner with her sometimes, and she will respond in kind, but for those who are more gentle with her, that gentleness is shown back again.

The short back story is that, my wife and I volunteered at a shelter in Peru, and my wife fell in love with Disa. We have a cat, so didn't think it fair to bring her back with us. My sister-in-law instead adopted her (so my wife could still see her), but no-one else at my SIL's helps out with Disa (despite saying they would), and she's too much for my SIL alone, on top of her other life commitments, and Disa's clearly not happy/is bored. Case in point - we went away as a family a couple of weeks ago for a wedding and Disa stayed with friends of my sister-in-law. At these friends, she was zooming around the house, going on 2x 1hour walks a day (she never wants to walk for us at our home area), and when she came back , was very sad/whining to leave again, so it confirmed that a happy future for Disa is - sadly - not with our family. It breaks our hearts as she's a lovely dog, but we've got to do right by her.

We want the best for Disa so would ideally like someone who's had dog before, or at least knows what they are getting into. She will come with bowls, come toys, a crate (which she views as her safe-place, but does not have to sleep in overnight), a couple of other beds/blankets, a lead, collar and whatever food remains.

Her annual boosters were done on the 15th December 2024.
