Unfortunately for Stitch, she did get left behind and forgotten, but Stitch has shown amazing courage and resilience and is ready to be loved by a very special family.

Stitch came into our care a little over 3 months ago, and without a microchip or identification she was left unclaimed. When Stitch first arrived at our shelter she was extremely shut-down, avoidant and nervous about meeting new people. The shelter environment mixed with seeing new faces everyday was extremely overwhelming for her.

Our behaviour team here in shelter could see Stitch needed some extra support to ensure she could open up and become the best version of herself. Through working with our behaviour team, Stitch has flourished into a smoochy, happy-go-lucky girl. Stitch has been able to more confidently approach new people, even leaning in for cuddles and pats! She has also gained her confidence greatly through playing and interacting with other confident dogs!

Stitch's trainers have said she loves her treats, loves snuggling with soft toys and cushions and loves to have a snuggle in her safe space such as her crate or bed.

However, there is still work that needs to be done, and this is where you come in! Stitch is looking for a home where she can continue building her confidence and rehabilitation and we have an extra special arrangement to ensure this process is as smooth as possible for her. Stitch will require a family who is willing to foster her for roughly a month prior to adoption, to help ensure that she comfortably settles in to her new home before adoption. Stitch is currently receiving on-going medication to help support her progress, & her foster family will need to be able to provide this to her. (The shelter will provide you with medication for the foster period.)

Most of this process works as normal - you are encouraged to come into the shelter to complete a meet and greet with Stitch & our adoptions team. If the meeting is successful, Stitch will spend some time in foster with your family and our behaviour trainers will regularly check in with her progress. After the four weeks (or earlier if you're ready!), we are hoping that you will fall in love and we can move forward with making this process final & completing the adoption!

Stitch would love to go home with another resident dog who can assist her in building confidence, she would also be okay with going home to secondary school aged dog savy children who can read her body language and understand she may need some down time!
